LUXURY LODGES IN AUSTRALIA – PREFERRED BY MATURE LUXURY TRAVELERS

|

The Louise-AustraliaLUXURY LODGES IN AUSTRALIA WORTH EXPLORING

Unique luxury lodges in Australia are great to stay in while exploring the many diverse areas of the country.  Because there are a number of sophisticated, barefoot luxury lodges to choose from, I will highlight some of the mainland choices for Australia now and save the island lodges for a later review.

BEGINNING  IN QUEENSLAND…….. LUXURY LODGES IN THE NORTHEAST OF AUSTRALIA

As a gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, this part of Australia is the center for extended deep sea diving trips and easy day tours out to a pontoon on the Reef to snorkel and admire the marine life from a glass bottom boat.  But Reef excursions are not the only exciting activities in North Queensland.

One of the world’s oldest rainforests, located in Daintree National Park,  is happily discovered on a daily basis  by new people to the area, who arrive with their expert guides in 4 wheel drive vehicles that can penetrate the forest trails.  They are very enthusiastic their day spent in the rainforest.

Sikly Oaks LodgeIdeally located to take advantage of the Great Barrier Reef and rainforest experiences is Silky Oaks Lodge, a luxury eco lodge on the banks of beautiful Mossman River adjoining the rainforest.  Sitting in complete privacy in your individual tree house, you can look out at the colorful local birds and lush foliage that surrounds your bedroom or relax in a hammock on your verandah.  It is a very peaceful environment close to nature.

LUXURY LODGES IN NEW SOUTH WALES……… NOT FAR FROM SYDNEY

Wolgan ValleyAbout 3 hours from Sydney is the Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa, another luxury lodge in Australia where you can enjoy the ultimate luxury Australian bush experience.  Secluded on a 4000 acre property, each individual suite has its own indoor/outdoor swimming pool, and activities include four wheel drive wildlife tours, horseback riding, mountain bike tours, guided bush walks and heritage tours.  The carbon-neutral resort is located between two national parks at the base of towering cliffs and occupies its own private conservation and wildlife reserve.  It offers relaxation and adventure in luxurious comfort.

LUXURY LODGES IN VICTORIA………….. THINKING OF MELBOURNE

Lake HouseSitting on the shores of Lake Daylesford about 80 minutes from Melbourne is the Lake House, a small luxury hotel well known for its restaurant and cellar.  With one of Australia’s most awarded restaurants, it is a mecca for foodies from around the world and those who want to rejuvenate themselves in the famed mineral water springs of the on-site Salus Spa.  What also makes the Lake House special is its beautiful rural surroundings with tours to markets, galleries, nature walks, golf, and winery tours.  This is the place to come to relax before or after your sightseeing in Melbourne.

LUXURY LODGES IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA………….. WINE IN THE BAROSSA VALLEY

It is all about the excellent wine in the Barossa Valley.  A private day tour from Adelaide to visit several wineries and then return to the city is very easy to do, since it is only an hour away.  However, even better is to plan on a night or two at The Louise, a luxury vineyard retreat with an outstanding restaurant.  There are only 15 luxurious suites each with its own terrace.  If you are interested in exclusive wine tastings and winemaker introductions tailored to your specific interests, this can be easily arranged through The Louise.

Pork-BellyIn addition to the wine tasting, you can also go on a hot air balloon ride, take a nice hikecycle around the vineyards, visit the acclaimed Barossa Farmers Market, and have Breakfast with the Kangaroos.  There are a number of very good small shops in the vicinity that sell homemade jams, specialty cheeses, and other home grown products.  Even if you are not a wine connoisseur, you can still have a wonderful time just visiting the local shops and trying their featured items.

As there are too many luxury lodges to include in a single review on luxury vacations in Australia, I will feature some of the other great choices in my next article.  Along with our travel partners, Swain Destinations and Springboard Vacations, we are able to customize a luxury vacation to Australia that will have you planning a return visit before you can even get home.  That is how much fun it is for us too!
