Fun in Madrid – Explore These Notable Seasonal Happenings

|

Madrid Paella lunch, fun in Madrid SpainSpring in the City

Fun in Madrid is year round, but spring is especially exciting.  It is hard to describe the energy you feel when you walk around the city.  The downtown streets are already crowded with tourists attracted to fun in Madrid, even though it is only the middle of April. The temperature is perfect:  sunny and in the mid-70s.  It does not cool off too much at night, and people have fun in Madrid while out enjoying an evening stroll.

Notable Seasonal Happenings for Fun in Madrid

Madrid Westin Palace Hotel, fun in Madrid, SpainMany of the streets in the historic center of the city have been reconfigured to allow more pedestrian traffic and make it easier to move around for fun in Madrid.  It is a nice improvement. The world famous Prado Museum and the newer, also excellent Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum are busy, and  there are crowds at Atocha train station.  It is the beginning of Semana Santa, the week preceding Easter. Even though the main religious processions during this time are in southern Spain, in times past Madrid marked the occasion by closing all of the night clubs and other places for fun in Madrid, while only permitting somber music to be played during this week. Having competed against Rio de Janeiro to host the 2016 Olympics, perhaps some of the improvements to the streets and the cleanliness of the beautiful, stately buildings are the result of this competition.  The city sparkles.

People Watching and Eating are Fun in Madrid

While visiting the expansive, bustling Plaza Mayor, we saw Winnie the Pooh, Minnie Mouse, Sponge Bob, a bullfighter with his cape, and a very out of shape Spider Man guzzling a beer.  There is much visual entertainment and fun in Madrid just to be had by walking around. Madrid Bullfighter in Plaza Mayor, enjoying fun in Madrid, SpainOn a street behind the Plaza Mayor is the successful creation of an upscale market, Mercado de San Miguel, that sells all kinds of tapaswine, pastries, paella, frozen yogurt and more to crowds of people who are willing to stand up and eat as they move from one enticing display to the next.  It always seems to be busy there, even outside of regular mealtimes.

Hope for Future Fun in Madrid

Although on the surface life in Madrid appears to indicate great economic success, there are many problems with unemployment.  Reports have been published recently stating that almost a third of the young people are unable to find jobs.  It is a depressing statistic. As a visitor looking for fun in Madrid, you are unaware of any underlying economic problems, because you will only see the best of the city. It is my hope that many people will come for fun in Madrid this year and to enjoy its beauty and hospitality, so the city will continue to flourish and provide an economic network for all of its citizens.  It is the kind of place you will always want to visit again.
