Luxury Travel To Find Picasso In Cuba – A Visit To Fusterlandia

|

art work in Fusterlandia, Cuba, visited by mature luxury travelers on their luxury tour of CubaWhen you think of Cuba, you probably focus on Castro, cigars, old cars, and limited travel access. What you probably do not imagine is finding art like Fusterlandia that looks like a cross between Picasso and Gaudi there on your luxury travel trip.

Judy Bongiorno, luxury travel expert, and artist Fuster in front of his art work in Fusterlandia, CubaIt was quite a revelation when we pulled up outside Jose Fuster’s residence/studio compound and entered his magnetically colorful artistic world. The small working class neighborhood of Jaimanitas on the outskirts of Havana became Fuster’s home about 30 years ago, and over the years he has transformed many of his neighbors’ dwellings into whimsical works of art, while depicting something special about the family living there. A visit to Fusterlandia is like driving through Fantasyland.

Spending time in Fuster World is very satisfying, as the vivid sculptures and mosaics are light-hearted and joyful. You can watch Jose Fuster with his workers, some of whom are family. It is a small scale, but highly personal, effort. Want to explore it too? Contact me for your 20 min complimentary luxury travel session.

Fuster’s artistic style was greatly influenced by a trip to Europe, where he saw Gaudi’s work in Barcelona and Brancusi’s in Romania. Picasso also had a major impact on his development.

Now internationally known, Jose Fuster has exhibited his work in Europe and India. We can look forward to hearing more about him, when artistic exchanges between the U.S. and Cuba are allowed to take place. Interested in visiting other less traveled hidden art treasure worldwide?
